Training Opportunities:

NYNJADOT Externship

Wellness Associates offers advanced psychology doctoral students a year-long clinical psychology predoctoral externship in evidence-based assessment and treatment for several major classes of psychopathology, namely anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, eating disorders, and high functioning developmental disabilities. As our emphasis is on evidence-based treatments, externs participate in weekly didactic trainings and case conferences to translate empirically supported treatment methods into complex case conceptualizations. Educational and neuropsychological assessment opportunities are also available with close supervision in integrative psychological reports and client feedback provided. Externs will receive weekly individual supervision from a licensed psychologist and group supervision through Wellness Associates’ collaborative case conferences. Externs will also engage in consultation with other health professionals in the community who regularly interface with the practice. Our externship provides a stipend for externs, and in addition to a focus on refining assessment and intervention skills, considerable attention is given to developing the full range of professional skills needed for success in the workforce. Scholarly publication opportunities are also available for interested externs.

Advanced Externship

Graduate students who have completed one year of externship at Wellness Associates may apply to continue their training as Advanced Externs. Advanced Externs continue to participate in weekly case conference, didactics, and individual supervision with a licensed psychologist. Caseload is determined on a case to case basis. Compensation is provided as well as a stipend for conference and/or continuing education expenses.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship

Wellness Associates offers postdoctoral fellows the opportunity to provide evidence-based treatment to children, adolescents, and adults with anxiety disorders; obsessive-compulsive and related disorders; eating disorders; depression; and high functioning developmental disabilities. Additionally, postdoctoral fellows are given the opportunity to conduct educational and neuropsychological assessments, including comprehensive assessment for autism (using the Autism Diagnostic Observation System, ADOS). Postdoctoral fellows receive in-depth training and supervision in the application of evidence-based interventions including exposure therapy (based on the inhibitory learning model), cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, design and implementation of at-home behavior programs, parent management training, and where applicable family intervention. Postdoctoral fellows participate in weekly individual supervision with a licensed psychologist and group supervision through the practice’s collaborative case conferences.Additionally, postdoctoral fellows receive training, experience, and supervision in providing clinical supervision. Postdoctoral fellows are offered highly competitive compensation as well as a stipend for conference and/or continuing education expenses.

Professional Consultations:

Mental health providers benefit from regular consultation with other members of the profession. We often provide collaborative care consultation with our clients’ other health care providers (e.g., psychiatrists, primary care physicians, etc.) and academic institutions (e.g., school psychologists, etc.). Additionally, we offer consultation with colleagues across the United States and internationally. We also offer limited scope assessments for clients in other jurisdictions and provide consultation with their local-area treating clinician, as a means for more efficiently delivering evidence-based treatments.
